OPEN SAUNA MAPA spa hotel with a sauna world, built into a fortress dating back to 1913. In the Little Bali area (Eine Kleine Bali), there is a mildly warm Botanical sauna and a hotter bird's nest sauna (which from the outside looks like a nest made of branches). The air in the bird's nest was slightly more humid because there was a multi-stage automatic water dispenser on top of the stove. The shapes of the sauna benches and walls were rounded, as was the large oval landscape window. The most pleasant sauna in the place. The temperature in the Botanical sauna is low, and you can sit there in padded seats, such as hanging chairs. Little Bali could be reached from the fortress by walking along stepping stones (a floating bridge) across the moat. You could also go swimming in the moat from the sandy beach (the bottom is mud). The fortress itself also featured saunas, hot tubs, etc. The Beemster area is land reclaimed from a lake in the 17th century using windmills, and it is full of small canals. The fortress is built on wooden piles. The old concrete surfaces have been beautifully left visible inside.
